U.S. President Donald Trump said he has ordered the military to prepare for strikes on Iran if the government in Tehran attempts to assassinate the U.S. president or initiates an assassination plot.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said, "A thousand missiles are ready to be launched and aimed at Iran, with thousands more to follow immediately if the Iranian government carries out its threat, made in various parts of the world, to assassinate the President of the United States — me — or attempts to do so."

He added, "The orders have already been issued. The U.S. military is on full alert and is prepared, ready, and capable, for one year with the option of extension, of completely destroying all areas of Iran."
