Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has issued a new set of appointments within the security services, under which Interior Minister Anas Khattab will assume the position of Director of the National Security Office while retaining his post as interior minister.

A statement by the official SANA news agency said: "President Ahmad al-Sharaa has issued a new set of appointments in the security institutions, including a number of key positions. The appointments include the designation of engineer Anas Khattab as Director of the National Security Office, in addition to his duties as Minister of Interior. They also include the appointment of Hussein al-Salameh as deputy director of the National Security Office, and Melhem al-Shantout as deputy interior minister for security affairs. The appointments also include naming Abdel Kader Tahan as head of the General Intelligence Directorate, as part of a series of changes taking place within the security institutions during the current phase."
