Rahi: Aoun Stresses Success of Rome Talks and Calls for Israeli Cooperation
Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi said that President Joseph Aoun told him that “Israel must act differently, particularly as negotiations are taking place under the auspices of the United States.”

Speaking after his meeting with President Aoun at Baabda Palace, Rahi said: “The President said that the negotiations in Rome were successful, but Israel needs to show a bit more cooperation.”

He added: “I discussed the Rome negotiations with President Aoun. The Vatican is concerned with the issue of Lebanon, and I congratulated the President on his honorable positions, which inspire confidence among all Lebanese.”

Rahi also said: “Heaven is open and calls on the Lebanese to have confidence in themselves, their homeland, and their state,” adding: “Fifteen saints and blesseds are no small matter, and no other country has anything like it.”

The Maronite Patriarch further confirmed that “no Catholic school in the southern border villages has closed, and they are addressing the issue of tuition fees,” while calling for “the return of the people of southern Lebanon alongside the reconstruction process.”
