Siniora: the extension of the parliament's term would declare Lebanon a failed country

Head of the Future Bloc MP Fouad Siniora said that Lebanese factions must stand should to shoulder  in order to facilitate the cabinet formation in a way that all Lebanese feel that both March 8 and 14 camp are making necessary concessions, away from overwhelming the government with unfeasible demands.

Siniora noted that the new government must above all reach an electoral law and oversee the electoral process, considering that any forecasts made regarding the extension of the incumbent parliament's term are in fact declaring Lebanon as a failed country which could entail political, dipolomatic, security, economic and financial repercussions.

Siniora also said that the country is witnessing today the beginning of a new era of Lebanon's history, stressing that this opportunity should be seized in order to ease tensions and to form a harmonious cabinet able to guide the country to safe shores, where elections can be held and the self-dissociation policy can be adopted and well applied.

Siniora praised Speaker Berri's statement in which he considered that the designation of PM Tammam Salam represents a new page that the former majority has opened as an approach towards the former opposition.

As for the electoral law, Siniora stressed the rejection of the 1960 law, noting that the latter can only be abrogated by another, since "we don't want to reach a point where the 1960 law is annulled while no substitute has been reached yet".
