Army Command says Huvelin standoff didn't enclose any security breach

The Lebanese Army command said that the scuffle "which took place at one of the universities against the backdrop of students elections didn't enclose any security breach that necessitates the army units' intervention", adding that the incident was no more than a verbal dispute between students.

The statement pointed out that the intervention of the army and security forces to any campus requires a prior request by the institution's administration or security forces in charge of protecting it, which was not the case in Huvelin.

"Despite that, an LAF force arrived at the campus to prevent the situation from worsening," the statement added.
