An explosion heard in an Egyptian canal city on Saturday was caused by a rocket-propelled grenade fired at a police base, the interior ministry said.

Interior ministry spokesperson Hany Abdel Latif said assailants "fired an RPG and then opened heavy fire on the base." It was not immediately clear if anyone was killed or wounded.
