Akkarians? More Like Aliens!?

It seems that Syrian effrontery has gotten to new level! Picture the lives of the inhabitants of the bordering region of Akkar as torrents of bullets and projectiles wreck their houses and their nerves in the absence of deterrents or penalty. Let’s put this way, Syrian actions denote an open war on northern Lebanon and then … fake condemnations and security measures are organized so that the big picture flies fast above our heads – but it sure does not!. It is high time that someone, somewhere took real decisions, stopped messing around with cabinet formation and put an end to Syrian infringement of Lebanese sovereignty; citizens are to be protected.

Friday morning, the northern towns of Akkar received an ill-timed, ill-mannered gift from a neighbor raging in war and hatred; a gift of projectiles, missiles and bullets in the order of 50 – mind you we are not in war against our neighbor, for it seems to them, like a good pastime to destroy houses and kill innocent onlooker on the other side of the borders. Hashem Khaled al-Ahmad died while Mahmud Ahmad Ramadan, Jamileh Ahmad Assaf as well as Mahmud Mansour and Staff Sergeant Zakariya al-Ali were the only wounded so far. Moreover, the physical damage that befell the towns of Aboudieh, Heker Janine, al-Aarma, Qoubour el-Beid, and Mashta Hammud adds to the hostile image that our eyes perceive with disgust, should our officials stand still and just watch … this is not cinema!

The residents of Qoubour el-Beid on the outskirts of Aidamoun, who were fed up with living someone else’s war and alienated from the Lebanese society, who by the way seeks to neutral Lebanon from all regional conflicts (ironically!), beseeched President Michel Sleiman, Army Commander Brigadier-General Jean Qahwaji, as well as the totality of concerned officials to take the plunge and bring to a halt the outcomes of the Syrian war on their live.

Then again, prayers were not answered – yet, hopefully – while our borders are breached by militants, gunmen, terrorists and the collection of obscure figures carries on, Lebanese houses, with their residents, fall victim to Syrian incivility. Impunity must be stopped!
