Cyril Aphrem Karim has been elected on Monday as Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church in a voting session that took place a while ago at the headquarters of the Patriarchate in Atshaneh.

The newly elected Patriarch who came as successor of Zakka I Iwas was Bishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church in the United States.
