A teary-eyed King Juan Carlos on Wednesday signed an act of parliament sealing his abdication of the Spanish crown after a four-decade reign, clearing the throne for his 46-year-old son, Felipe VI.
Juan Carlos signed the document at a televised ceremony in front of scores of dignitaries in Madrid's old Royal Palace and then hugged his son, who will be sworn in on Thursday morning.
