Lebanese Truckers Shift From Arab Calligraphy to Roadkill Fashion

Lebanese cargo-truck drivers have always been enamored with Arabic calligraphy; they personally oversee the body designs, usually covered with witty statements and romantic expressions. Hardly any truck has survived this growing phenomenon; however, what the picture above depicts is a phenomenon of a different kind.

This particular trucker had been spotted riding the Metn coastal highway up towards Brumana-Ain Saade, paying no heed to safety measures.

At first glimpse, you can see that the truck has no front or rear license plate number but that’s not the only violation. Taking sharp turns uphill, the driver didn’t even bother with locking the rear door to keep the large blocks of stone from smashing queuing cars or turning an innocent bystander into a road kill.

Most drivers have “may the evil eye go blind,” scribbled on the back of their trucks to ward off undesirable vibes; they must surely know that the words have spilled their charm on police officers, for they, as well, have turned a blind eye to these potential hazards.
