This politics expert really did eat his words today when he swallowed pages from his Brexit book live on television after his bet on Labour's performance in the General Election proved wrong.

 

Matthew Goodwin, from the University of Kent, vowed to "happily" start eating his book if Jeremy Corbyn secured 38 per cent or more of the public vote.

 

And the prediction came back to haunt him when Labour achieved 40 per cent.

 

Despite the embarrassment of eating Brexit: Why Britain Voted to Leave the European Union live on television, the author gave a thumbs up after devouring several pages.

 

He originally tweeted on May 27: "I'm saying this out loud."
