Minister of Information, Jamal Jarrah, on Monday highlighted the necessity to devise a new national strategy and vision to rescue the sector of media and information in Lebanon.

"There is a huge opportunity ahead to recuperate the role of Lebanon and the Lebanese media," Jarrah said in a press conference following a handover ceremony with outgoing minister Melhem Riachy at the Ministry of Information.

The ceremony took place in presence of the Ministry's Director General Hassan Falha, National News Agency's Director Laure Sleiman, Radio Department head Mohammad Gharib, and advisor Andre Qassas, among others.

"We must devise a new national strategy to rescue this sector and journalists," Jarrah underlined, adding that there are many major challenges caused by the technology revolution.

Moreover, he called writers and journalists for utmost objectivity, inviting them to form a unifying national opinion whose key mission would be the preservation of national unity and stability.

He also maintained that his door would be open to all people.

In the beginning, Riachy welcomed his successor, stressing that he would have preferred to be handing over to him the ministry of communication and dialogue.

"However, I shall hand you today this dossier that has been pending in the Cabinet and which represents 16 months of work at the Ministry of Information," he said.

"I am handing the ministry to a person who is trusted by all the Lebanese, by the Future Movement, and specifically by the Lebanese Forces and myself," he added.
