Two Lebanese Forces delegations visited various political leaders on Monday and handed each a copy of party leader Samir Geagea’s presidential platform.
Following a meeting with Lebanese Kataeb leader Amine Gemayel in Bikfaya, LF MP Setrida Geagea stated that the March 14 coalition will attend Wednesday’s presidential vote with a single candidate.
Geagea, heading a delegation including MPs Joseph Maalouf and Elie Kairouz along with former Minister Toni Karam and a member of the party's executive committee Eddy Abi al-Lamaa, described her meeting with Gemayel as positive, saying that the two sides highlighted the importance of the elections.
She also stressed that lawmakers who fail to attend the session aim at obstructing the democratic course of said vote.
For his part, Gemayel stressed that the March 14 coalition unity must remain intact before and after the elections, reiterating the need to reach agreement over a single candidate according to a mechanism that takes into account all possible scenarios that may occur throughout this whole process.
The Kataeb chief had also discussed the much-anticipated presidential vote with Head of al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc, MP Fouad Siniora, during a phone call.
Later on during the day, Geagea met with Prime Minister Tammam Salam at the latter’s residence in Msaytbeh to hand him Geagea's presidential program.
Following the talks, Geagea noted that a positive atmosphere has prevailed so far in the delegation’s meetings with local officials and parliamentary blocs.
The same delegation had also met with Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat at his Clemenceau residence where both parties confirmed that they will be attending Wednesday’s session.
Later on during the day, Jumblat stated that his party will be announcing its stance over the presidential vote on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, another delegation, comprising of MP Antoine Zahra and Lebanese Forces party chief adviser Wehbe Qatisha, met with the Head of the National Liberal Party Dory Chamoun.
For its part, al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc voiced “full support” to the Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea’s presidential bid, as the party’s delegates carried on their promotional tour.
“We announce our full support to Samir Geagea in his presidential bid,” al-Mustaqbal bloc MP Ahmad Fatfat said following talks with the Lebanese Forces delegation.
Fatfat hailed Geagea's platform, saying it meets the needs as well as aspirations of the Lebanese people, and quenches their thirst for a powerful state.
LF MP George Edwan praised al-Mustaqbal bloc's decision, affirming that the March 14 coalition will be announcing a unified stance ahead of Wednesday's parliamentary session.
Following the meeting, MP Zahra relayed Chamoun’s concurrent viewpoint relating to the holding of the presidential vote as scheduled.
Later on, the two LF officials visited the Jamaa Islamiya headquarters where they met with MP Imad al-Hout to whom they handed a copy of Geagea’s platform and discussed its content. Both parties outlined the need to consolidate the state institutions and their role.
