Statistics done by the NGO Kafa show that over 100 women are subjected to household violence daily but few admit it despite the rise of awareness campaigns and the approval of the law incriminating violence against women in Lebanon.
Tamara Harisi, a 22 year old mother to a 6 months old baby girl, is one of those who found themselves battered, in a hospital bed, following years of silence and agony.
The culprit this time is her husband, Hussein Ftouny.
This is not the first time this young mother has been beaten, Ftouny has turned his wife's body into a punching bag for the entire time they were married.
Ftouny turned himself in but will he be released like other abusers just days after to return to his old habits or will the new laws change anything?
Harisi gathered whatever strength remaining in her body and hired an attorney to defend her and file for divorce.
Will the new law protect her from her abusive husband or will he find an escape route in any present loop holes?
