US Senator Ted Cruz took part in a conference for Middle Eastern Christians held in Washington Wednesday and was hooted off the stage following remarks claiming that Christians have no greater ally than Israel.

The main speaker at the conference, Cruz kicked off his speech by saying that all the attendees are united for the defense of Christians as well as Jews, adding that they are present to defend the rights of those dying for their beliefs.

"Religious bigotry is a cancer with many manifestations," he noted, adding that terrorist groups like ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah and al-Qaeda, sponsored by Syria and Iraq are all engaged in a genocidal campaign aimed at destroying religious minorities in the Middle East.

He was booed offstage as soon as he started discussing Israel as an ally to Christians, making matters worse by stating that those who hate Israel hate the US and are failing to reflect the teachings of Christ.

IDC President Toufic Baaklini came out to the stage to get the audience to listen to the Senator after booing and remarks such as "Out, out, leave the stage" were heard across the auditorium.

Cruz's closing statement was just as shocking, for he stated that if the crowd refuses to stand with Israel and the Jews, then he will not stand by them.

IDC's Executive Director, Andrew Doran, then came out on stage, saying "For the love of God, we're here to talk about Christians and we're here to be united."

"In Defense of Christians" released a statement denouncing Cruz's remarks, noting that the speeches should have been directed towards unity and faith but were diverged to serve certain political interests.

"In this case, a few politically motivated opportunists chose to divide a room that for more than 48 hours sought unity in opposing the shared threat of genocide, faced not only by our Christian brothers and sisters, but our Jewish brothers and sisters and people of other all other faiths and all people of good will," the statement read.
