Spencer Stone, the hero who thwarted a mass shooting on a train in France, was stabbed Wednesday night in Sacramento, California, and is in stable condition, the U.S. Air Force said.
"Spencer Stone has been transported to a local hospital, and is currently being treated for injury," Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Karns told Air Force Times.
Stone was an Air Force medic at the 65th Air Base Group at Lajes Air Base in Portugal and is now stationed at the Travis Air Force Base in California.
Stone and two childhood friends apprehended an armed gunman on a train headed to Paris from Amsterdam on Aug. 21.
France awarded all three men the Legion of Honor, the country's highest honor, following the incident. Stone was also awarded the Purple Heart and the Airman's Medal upon his return to the U.S.
