The 91st Academy Awards, aka the Oscars 2019, are happening tomorrow (Sunday, February 24) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and the ceremony is planned to last 3 hours. The long-awaited global event will be special this year on the Lebanese level because MTV Lebanon will be the only Lebanese TV station to have secured the rights for exclusive behind-the-scenes access, red carpet coverage and ceremony insider updates.
Jessica Khoury, who will be MTV Lebanon's correspondent for the event, attended last Thursday a special press meeting on foreign movies held by the Oscars planners. Only 12 TV stations from around the world were invited to this meeting in which they interviewed the award-nominated foreign filmmakers, including the Lebanese actress, director and writer, Nadine Labaki, whose movie Capernaum is nominated for the Oscars 2019.
Moreover, MTV will be present Sunday on the red carpet until 1 PM. The station will also enjoy the privilege of joining the Press Room, where about 50 or 60 journalists from all over the world will hold interviews and ask questions to all the winners, who will directly head to this room once they receive their prize.
Jessica Khoury also revealed that what will distinguish MTV from the two other Lebanese stations attending the Oscars is that MTV will have an exclusive red carpet and insider access to the ceremony, and will not be behind security barriers.
On another note, MTV was also invited to the Lebanese Embassy in Los Angeles on the eve of the Oscars to participate in an honorary event in support of Nadine Labaki. After being given an interesting scoop by Labaki on the red carpet, Jessica Khoury will later hold another interview with her, in addition to an interview with Capernaum's young hero, Zain Al-Rafeea, and with the Lebanese Ambassador in Los Angeles.
Khoury has also held an interview with Syrian director Talal Derki, nominated for the Best Documentary Feature, at his home in Los Angeles where he received MTV Lebanon's team.
