The Embassy of Pakistan, in an issued statement on Sunday, circulated the speech by Pakistani Ambassador Najeeb Durrani "during the solidarity stand organized by the Embassy today at its headquarters, under the headline: Day of Solidarity with Kashmir."
In his word, Ambassador Durrani said: "Kashmiris are not alone in their valiant struggle for the exercise of their inherent right to self-determination, but our hearts throb in unison with them and Pakistan would continue to extend its moral, political and diplomatic support to their justice cause.
Addressing the "Kashmir Solidarity Day" gathering at the Embassy, Durrani briefly shed light on "the illegal and unilateral action of the Indian government of 05 August aimed at altering the disputed status of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and changing its demographic structure."
"A Presidential Order was issued by the Indian Government, on 05 August, making Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which ensures special status of IOK within Indian state, irrelevant. This Order has made all the provisions of the Indian Constitution applicable to IOK, which previously had a special status," he said.
"Since 5th August, a curfew has been imposed in Kashmir, all the political leadership in the state has been detained in prison, and a complete communication blackout including shutting down of all mobile, telephone services as well as internet and print/digital media," Durrani went on.
"The communication blackout has been coupled with indiscriminate billings, torture, rape and detention of thousands of Kashmiri people in line with the state policy of the Hindu nationalist government of BJP in India," he indicated.
The Pakistani Ambassador appealed the torch bearers of dignity and rights of the humankind to raise their voice in support of helpless Kashmiris. Likening the Kashmir dispute to the Palestinian issue, he called upon the conscientious members of civil society everywhere, including the media fraternity, to stand by the voiceless and oppressed Kashmiris.
