Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi received a Jordanian parliamentary delegation headed by Foreign Relations Committee Chairman MP Haitham Ziadin, in the presence of Jordan’s acting chargé d’affaires in Lebanon Mohammad Al-Mahadin, MPs Hael Ayyash, Jihad Abbawi and Huda Nafaa, Lebanon’s Ambassador to Jordan Brigitte Tawk, and Maronite Patriarchal Vicar in Jordan Father Joseph Sweid.

Raggi thanked Jordan for its continued support and solidarity with Lebanon under King Abdullah II, praising the longstanding friendship between the two countries and peoples.

He reaffirmed the Lebanese government’s determination to strengthen state authority across all Lebanese territory, while stressing Lebanon’s positions on a full Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese lands, reconstruction of damaged areas, the return of residents to their villages and the release of Lebanese prisoners.

The Jordanian delegation expressed full support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and for state efforts to restore sovereignty and ensure that weapons remain exclusively in state hands.

The meeting also addressed plans to build the Maronite Church of the Baptism of Christ at Al-Maghtas on the Jordan River, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site traditionally associated with the baptism of Jesus Christ.
