U.S. Embassy Welcomes Parliament’s Adoption of New Media Law

The U.S. Embassy in Lebanon welcomed the Lebanese Parliament’s adoption of the modernized Media Law, describing it as an important step toward strengthening the country’s media landscape.
In a statement, the Embassy stressed that effective implementation of the law, alongside further reforms, will be essential to protecting journalists, safeguarding press freedom and fostering a pluralistic and independent media environment.
It also called for an end to the criminal prosecution of journalists solely for carrying out legitimate professional work, emphasizing the need to ensure that journalists can operate without undue political pressure.
“The United States remains deeply committed to supporting Lebanon’s efforts to uphold freedom of expression, protect journalists from political pressure, and sustain a vibrant and independent media sector,” the Embassy said.
