Southern Lebanon Sounds the Alarm Over Destruction and Displacement

The Association of Residents of Southern Border Towns issued the following statement:
What is happening in the border villages and adjacent towns, including their destruction, bulldozing, erasure of their landmarks, and the obliteration of their identity, heritage and collective memory, is taking place amid complete silence and without any legal, diplomatic or political action commensurate with the scale of the crime being committed against an integral part of the country.
The absence of serious initiatives by the relevant authorities to address this tragedy and halt the destruction, while preserving national dignity and sovereignty, calls for popular mobilization, an official position and diplomatic protest, alongside support from civil society groups, lawmakers, ministers, officials and all other concerned parties.
We call for a complaint to be filed with the United Nations, the Security Council and international legal and humanitarian bodies, as well as for broad national support for the cause of the border villages and their residents. Urgent action is needed to halt the bulldozing and destruction, facilitate the return of residents, and find immediate solutions to the conditions and problems facing displaced people, particularly with winter approaching and the start of the school year, which bring additional financial burdens and expenses.
