Lebanon’s General Directorate of Customs announced that, as part of ongoing efforts to combat smuggling, fraud and counterfeiting and prevent non-compliant products from reaching the market, customs units seized quantities of smuggled goods in Beirut and Sidon.

In Beirut, following extensive monitoring and surveillance, the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Division raided a warehouse used to store and sell smuggled candies and soft drinks without the required health authorization. The goods were seized and the warehouse owner was taken to the customs center pending the necessary legal measures.

In Sidon, the Sidon Customs Office’s Land Control Division seized quantities of food products and grains, including zaatar, peanuts and chickpeas, that had been smuggled into the country and were being prepared for distribution in violation of food safety regulations and applicable laws. The smuggled goods were confiscated and their owners were taken to the customs center for questioning, pending legal action.
