The Internal Security Forces’ Public Relations Division issued the following statement:
“As part of the Internal Security Forces’ ongoing efforts to track down and arrest individuals involved in gunfire incidents, the Damour Police Station of the Regional Gendarmerie Unit received information that a person had fired shots into the air from a military-grade Kalashnikov rifle while inside a car on the Khaldeh highway, before evading arrest for nearly two months.
Through follow-up operations, officers obtained video footage documenting the suspect firing the weapon. He had also boasted about the incident by posting a video on his WhatsApp status.
The suspect was identified as A.A., a Lebanese national born in 2008.
On September 9, 2026, following surveillance and monitoring, a Damour Police Station patrol arrested him in the Harat Al-Naameh area. Officers found a military-grade pistol, a magazine and four rounds of ammunition in his possession.
During questioning, he admitted to firing shots into the air with a military-grade Kalashnikov rifle. It was later established that the rifle had previously been seized by another security agency from a different individual, who was arrested several days after the shooting incident.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the suspect’s involvement in four separate shooting incidents, under the supervision of the competent judicial authorities.”
