The G7 countries called on Iran in a joint statement to stop arming and supporting the Houthis in Yemen, while urging the Houthi group to immediately halt its attacks on Saudi Arabia.
The G7 said the continuation of such actions constitutes a dangerous escalation that threatens international trade and undermines global stability.
In the statement issued after a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, the foreign ministers of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States explicitly called on Iran to end its arms supplies and support for the Houthis, holding Tehran responsible for fueling a dangerous pattern of escalation.
The ministers strongly condemned the ongoing and unacceptable attacks carried out by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia, calling on the group to immediately halt all military operations, threats and attacks on civilian vessels and return to the political process in good faith.
