Salam Calls on Iranian President to Nominate New Ambassador

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam held a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, in the presence of Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Salam said that “Lebanon has paid a heavy price in terms of its security, stability and economy, and does not want to be a battleground for regional conflicts or a venue for exchanging messages,” stressing that “the relationship between Lebanon and Iran is a historic one between the two countries and their peoples.”
He also emphasized that “Lebanon looks forward to turning a new page and building a healthy state-to-state relationship based on respect for each other’s sovereignty and independence, non-interference in each other’s affairs, and shared interests.” He added: “We wish Iran and its people every success, security, stability, prosperity and growth.”
Salam called on Iran to nominate a new ambassador to Lebanon, stressing that “the priority is for Israel to fully withdraw from Lebanese territory and halt its attacks, while moving forward with extending the authority of the Lebanese state across its entire territory and ensuring that weapons are held exclusively by the state.”
