Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s media office denied remarks circulated by Lebanese media and attributed to Salam and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during their Washington meeting, saying they were "entirely fabricated" and had not been made during the talks.
The office urged media outlets to rely on official sources, stressing that Salam had called for activating the trilateral framework and translating the principles of reciprocity and phased implementation into concrete steps.
It said Salam pressed for a clear timetable leading to the full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, the restoration of Lebanon’s sovereignty, exclusive state control over arms nationwide, and a credible verification mechanism as stipulated in the framework.
The statement added that the US State Department’s official account said Rubio reaffirmed Washington’s strong commitment to supporting Lebanon in implementing the framework and praised the Salam government’s efforts to extend state authority.
Salam’s office stressed that any positions attributed to either official beyond statements formally issued by the two sides did not reflect the content of the meeting.
