Lebanon Launches €19.5 Million EU-German Funded Water Sector Reform Project
Energy and Water Minister Joe Saddi announced the launch of the €19.5 million Water and Wastewater Management Programme Additional Phase (WAMA+), funded by the European Union and Germany and implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

The project aims to modernize Lebanon’s water sector through digital transformation, improved resource management and greater operational efficiency.

Running until mid-2029, it will introduce digital monitoring systems at 400 major water sources and update records for approximately 800,000 subscribers across Lebanon’s four regional water establishments.

Saddi said the initiative would strengthen water supply management, reduce losses, improve billing and revenue collection, and enhance financial sustainability.

German Ambassador Thomas Zanaisen and EU Deputy Head of Delegation Sami Al-Saadi reaffirmed their commitment to supporting reforms, improving transparency and ensuring equitable access to water.

The project includes €16.7 million in EU funding and €2.8 million from Germany.
