Finance Minister Yassine Jaber met Public Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine to discuss the challenges facing public hospitals and ways to strengthen their capacity to deliver healthcare services amid Lebanon’s ongoing financial and economic difficulties.

The talks focused on improving operational, human and technical capacities at public hospitals, as well as a World Bank loan earmarked for the health sector to support hospital infrastructure, modernise medical equipment and enhance service readiness.

Separately, Jaber chaired a meeting with a World Bank delegation to review progress on the bank-funded Public Financial Management Project. Discussions covered the development of tax administration systems, the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS), institutional capacity building and measures to strengthen governance and transparency.

The meeting also assessed progress on procurement procedures and implementation timelines for the project. Jaber stressed the importance of accelerating reforms, describing the modernisation of public financial management as a key pillar of fiscal and administrative reform.

The World Bank delegation reaffirmed its support for the reform programme, commending the progress achieved despite ongoing challenges.

Jaber also met MP Michel El Murr and former MP Hadi Hobeich to discuss issues related to the work of the Finance Ministry.
