President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, met with the US mediator of indirect negotiations for the demarcation of the Lebanese southern maritime borders, Ambassador, John Desrocher, on Monday at the Presidential Palace.

The President affirmed Lebanon's desire to continue the indirect negotiations in Naqoura with US mediation and international hosting, aiming to reach an understanding on the demarcation of maritime borders, in a manner that preserves the rights of the concerned parties, based on international laws.

President Aoun also asked the Ambassador Desrocher to play his role through pushing for fair and impartial negotiations, without preconditions, because this guarantees the establishment of real negotiations based on the right that Lebanon seeks to restore.

President Aoun also expressed his hope that the efforts that Ambassador Desrocher will make with Israeli officials will yield positive results, taking into account the presence of a new government in Israel, which may require additional efforts to avoid further delays in the negotiations, which Israel cannot impose a unilateral view on its track.

In addition, the President stressed Lebanon's openness to the ideas put forward within the framework of full Lebanese sovereignty by land and sea, pointing out that Lebanon has several options in case the Israelis do not respond to the efforts made to move negotiations.
