MP Alain Aoun, who attended the subcommittee meetings on behalf of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc, a staunch supporter of the Orthodox plan, told The Daily Star he believed consensus would be hard to come by, as the draft law is not backed by all parties.
"During the subcommittee meeting, the MPs made their remarks about the hybrid law. Our bloc believes that the districting and distribution of seats was made to serve political interests," Aoun said.
"Speaker Berri said that if there was no consensus on this draft law, he might propose a draft law of his own tomorrow [Thursday]," Aoun said.
Aoun said Berri's draft law would entail half of Parliament's MPs being elected by members of their sects under a proportional representation system with the entirety of Lebanon as a single district.
