Eurozone finance ministers are meeting in Brussels to discuss the next payment of bailout aid to Greece.
A European Commission spokesman says the exact figure would be decided later on Monday.
The spokesman said the figure of 8.1 billion euros quoted by numerous media was incorrect.
France, meanwhile, praised Greece’s commitment to reform ahead of the talks.
“Of course, there is still more progress to be made, especially in reforming the public sector. We will ask Greece to make the necessary efforts, take crucial decisions. I think the basis is there for a political agreement later.” said Pierre Moscovici, the French finance minister.
Two ministers quit the Portuguese government last week over austerity.
It forced Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho into a hasty reshuffle.
Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the Netherlands’ finance minister said he was glad that the threat of fresh elections had been averted.
“Political stability is crucial to keep countries on track, to work on the programs. Any political instability will lead to postponement of decisions. So, I am very glad that the Portuguese coalition is once again ready to continue their work,” he told reporters in Brussels.
Euronews’ correspondent in Brussels, Isabel Marques da Silva, said that officials would also discuss the recent Cyprus rescue and the health of Spanish banks.
“In this last meeting before the summer break, the risk of contagion in the eurozone is still high, especially with countries such as Italy and Slovenia,” our correspondent reports.
