State of emergency in Egypt
Security forces backed by bulldozers moved in Wednesday on two huge protest camps set up in Annahda and Rabiaa al-Adawiya by supporters of Egypt's ousted president Mohamed Morsi, launching a long-threatened crackdown that left dozens dead.
The operation began shortly after dawn when security forces surrounded the sprawling Rabaa al-Adawiya camp in east Cairo and a similar one at Al-Nahda square, in the centre of the capital.
Egypt’s health Ministry said that more one hundred people were killed and one thousand wounded to clear protests which forced Egypt’s presidency to announce emergency state for a month and to impose curfew from 7:00 p.m. Cairo's time till 6:00 a.m. in Egypt.
Muslim Brotherhood said via its website that 120 people were killed during clearing protests. U.S. News Week and British Sky's correspondents were shot dead.
Central security forces worked to ensure the safety of residents next to sit-in and called citizens not to get out from their house or stand on balconies.
