The March 14 General Secretariat on Wednesday called upon the caretaker cabinet to address the growing Syrian refugees influx, saying it should devise resolute solutions "away from the racist statements voiced by some ministers".
In a statement issued following its weekly meeting, the March 14 coalition warned against the repercussions entailed by the increasing number of refugees, referring to a high-ranking UN source which sounded the alarm over a demographic change in the region.
The coalition considered the Syrian refugees influx "is causing a great burden that exceeds the capacity of Lebanon and its people."
As for the cabinet formation issue, the March 14 coalition renewed its call for President Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam to form a cabinet that is free from Hezbollah’s restrictions, and that is based on the Baabda declaration.
"The formation of the government is a national responsibility and a constitutional duty par excellence that must be taken out of the regional and international polarization," the statement said.
Conferees did not fail to slam Hezbollah's self-security measures, whether in Beirut's Southern Suburb or in Baalbeck.
"The Lebanese state is asked to put term to this chaos and to extend its authority throughout all Lebanese regions with no exception whatsoever," it noted.
They maintained that Hezbollah must pull its fighters out from Syria as a prelude to rectifying the inter-Lebanese ties.
