President Bashar Assad of war-torn Syria said the "factors are not yet in place" to launch peace talks with his opponents, in a television interview broadcast on Monday.
"No time has been set, and the factors are not yet in place if we want (a U.S.-Russian peace initiative dubbed Geneva 2 to succeed," Assad said.
"Which forces are taking part? What relation do these forces have with the Syrian people? Do these forces represent the Syrian people, or do they represent the states that invented them?" the embattled leader asked.
Assad pointed out his country is being targeted because of its foreign policy.
"When the world started talking about terrorism we did not hesitate to make a coalition with countries fighting the terrorism, including US," Assad stressed.
Syrian president said that US, European, Arab actions in Syria constitutes support for terror groups in his country and some did it on purpose.
"No doubt that the US is a great country and has an impact on the world and it is good to create relations with US that serve our interests regardless the differences between both countries, however it is hazardous to create relations that serve only the US own interest," Assad opined.
Regarding the Syrian opposition, he commented "It is very normal that opponents movements exist, but the opposition is based on a political principle, it supporters has a clear political program, it is not a mercenary from outside the country as it does not take orders from the outside. However the opposition cannot be political and armed at the same time, when it owns arms its name will change into rebel or terrorism," he went on saying.
Furthermore, Syrian president considered that Hizbullah intervention in Syria aims at defending the Resistance adding that he is waiting for Lebanese President Michel Suleiman to prove that Michel Samaha is involved in terror acts in Lebanon.
