Obama: US committed to Lebanon’s security
US President Barack Obama on Wednesday voiced Washington’s support for Lebanon’s security as well as the Lebanese people’s efforts to form a government.

Obama said in a statement that the US is committed to “promoting Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty, and independence and to [its] partnership with the Lebanese Armed Forces.”

“We continue to support the Lebanese people as they seek to form a government that reflects their aspirations and that will strengthen Lebanon’s ability to defend its national interests and meet its international obligations,” the statement also quoted Obama as saying.

The US president’s remarks came on the 30th anniversary of the bombing of the US Marines barracks in Beirut that left 241 troops dead.
