Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam hoped on Wednesday that the start of trials in the February 2005 assassination of PM Rafik Hariri would reveal the truth and heal the wounds of the families of the martyrs and all the Lebanese "who are eager to put an end to the series of political assassinations that Lebanon has suffered for so long."
Salam expected in a statement that the STL trial will restore the concept of absolute justice as a human right, and will contribute to implementing the basic principles according to which murder is deemed as a punishable crime "and not an acceptable tool of political action."
The designated premier also stressed that the imminent trial "should be an insight to the path that we want our country and our future generations to take. It must confirm that human values are as supreme as truth and justice which are a prerequisite for any sane patriotic life."
