The optimism that tagged along Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s return to Lebanon has slowly degraded regarding a swift solution for the Presidential deadlock.
Future Movement MPs held private meetings with Hariri over the past two days regarding the political task that the latter is carrying, almost as important in value as the $1 billion Saudi donation in support of the Army.
The MPs showed obvious relief over the return of their Chief within rough circumstances for their party as well as their supporters.
A relief that these MPs fear won’t last as their leader decides to leave once more, given that none of them knows whether his return is final or temporary.
So far, al-Mustaqbal affiliates fail to understand the nature or depth of Hariri’s relationship with Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun. Hariri is sure to hold a special place in his heart for Aoun, as it was made certain when the latter failed to reject the possibility of voting for Aoun in Parliament.
Hariri only stated that he and his party aren’t an active side of this race but will surely assist so as to see it come to life, adding that he will place no vetoes on any candidate.
“If Aoun wins, then congratulations,” he said.
Future Movement MPs are convinced that Hariri’s return has a political aspect that is yet to be revealed and are even more convinced that it is related to the presidential elections in addition to its already established role in supporting the Army.
Hariri’s stances regarding Aoun weren’t the only thing that was shocking. It was also the latter’s words regarding Hezbollah and Iran.
An MP stated that the calm that prevailed over Hariri’s speech when speaking of Aoun was the same as when he spoke of Hezbollah.
“Surely the stance remains unchanged regarding the party’s partake in the Syrian war,” the MP said, adding that they sensed an attempt to persuade his lawmakers that opening up to Hezbollah is more coherent with al-Mustaqbal’s moderate appeal and will help in putting out the flames of sedition currently ravaging the country.
The only Saudi stance relayed by Hariri to his lawmakers was that of utmost support for the Lebanese Army.
Regardless, the Future Movement MPs believe that their leader’s stances emerged from a Saudi-Iranian deal to broker a settlement so as to ease the unrest in Lebanon on all levels.
