Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) students erected tents in protest against a decision by their university to increase tuition fees, near a street facing their campus.

Electricite du Liban (EDL) part-time workers also erected tents demanding full-time employment.

Not to mention the already existing tents belonging to Syrian refugees erected across the country, but mainly in Bekaa.

If we ever wanted to count the tents, whether they were for protest or for shelter, in addition to the Palestinian camps which contains thousands of Palestinian nationals, we would conclude that the significant space in Lebanon accorded to tents and camps is larger than the space which should occupied by Cedar forests, the symbol of our country.

Maybe we should not link the tents erected by Lebanese youths who are protesting the hard living to those erected by people fleeing wars in their lands. But we have the right to voice our fear over the expansion of the tent space until Lebanon officially becomes the "Republic of Tents!".
