Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt visited several areas in Shouf to raise the awareness of "Islamic State pest" which is spreading across Lebanon, starting from Shoueifat, to Deir Qoubel, Aley reaching Baysour. And Minister Wael Abou Faour was tasked to accomplish the same mission in Rashaya and Hasbaya. Druzes are now threatened not only in Syria and Iraq but also in Lebanon; Arsal battles sounded the alarm.
Jumblatt's visits today are similar to those he had made back in 1982 to Mount Lebanon prior to the Israeli war.
"What will happen in Lebanon will constitute an existential threat" said the military leader of the Druze in the same year.
PSP partisans say that their leader has never been that concerned during his entire political life.
According to al-Akhbar daily, Jumblatt's visit to Hizbullah Chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was anticipated by a tour on European forces.
"Jumblatt does not need the viewpoint of US because the latter had already shelled IS strongholds when it neared Arbil, and discarded the Christians and Yazidis," PSP partisans say.
But can Europeans grant Druzes guarantees similar to those given in 1982 knowing that these guarantees vanished once the Lebanese Forces invaded Mount Lebanon?
Jumblatt has discovered that Druzes have "no caring mother" in Europe and even one of March 8 deputies say "no one is protected."
Moreover, former minister Weam Wahab has been informed that there will no guarantees for the Druze by high-ranking French government sources, his new friends in Paris.
What to do then?
PSP partisans opine that Druzes and Christians play a major role in preserving balance in Lebanon between Sunnis and Shiites. They are keen on maintaining their unity in such hard times.
But as for the guarantees and security, Jumblatt who used to criticize Iran and Hizbullah's roles in Syria in the past few years, he is now defending the party's involvement in the war and insisting on calling those who fall in Syria "martyrs", while his opponents point out that the Druzes' only guarantee is Syria and the Resistance.
