The initiative put forth by the March 14 coalition Tuesday broke the internal political deadlock, announcing a series of talks to be held with all political factions so as to reach a settlement based on the Taef Accord.
Sources within the coalition stated that direct communication will be launched with Hezbollah regarding the said initiative, noting that Lebanese Forces MP George Adwan suggested that Loyalty to the Resistance MP Mohammad Raad represents the party.
The sources also revealed that similar talks will be held by MP Fouad Siniora with Speaker Nabih Berri, coinciding with talks initiated with PSP Chief Walid Jumblat.
Lebanese Kataeb Leader Amine Gemayel will hold his portion of the talks regarding the presidential race, the sources revealed, adding that all candidates affiliated to the coalition will also be engaged in the process.
With the initiative laid out in an attempt to salvage the republic, how did the March 8 coalition perceive it and does MP Qasem Hachem and Change and Reform’s reply relay another 100 day phase before a president is elected?
MP Ammar al-Houry noted that the Change and Reform Parliamentary bloc’s reaction to the initiative was rushed, unlike that of its allies, who took their time, adding that no party can examine the proposal without approving it because it is whole and complete.
“If the Change and Reform bloc reread the initiative, they will definitely approve of it,” he said.
Houry told MTV Website that the bloc is missing out on a chance to reach an agreement over a president and salvage the country, adding that if the bloc’s stance remains unchanged, the Marc 14 coalition will have no other option but to return to its initial candidate LF Chief Samir Geagea.
