A teacher at a Metn public school stated that the number of Syrian pupils that joined the facility last year was 320 and is potentially going to grow even further this year, noting that schools not equipped to accommodate these numbers have had to dedicate more time afterhours for the excessive students.
She also noted that the students receive a free meal constituted of a sweet treat and a juice box, courtesy of an international organization, daily, adding that this separates them even further from Lebanese students.
On the other hand, public school administrations still refuse to allow Syrian students to register for the coming school year, accordingly with the decision of Education Minister Elias Bou Saab.
Bou Saab’s decision to ban the registration of non-Lebanese students came following a plan to set-up after hour-schools from 2 to 6 p.m. at the expense of the United Nations.
Al-Safir newspaper revealed that one Southern Suburb school principal moved forward with the admission of returning Syrian students so as to reserve their seats free of charge, awaiting a decision that allows him to process the admissions.
