“The trip won’t cost you much, as it’s a one-way trip”. This is the sarcastic slogan used by the US Department of State to thwart those who might be considering Jihad in Syria and Iraq.
This slogan came as part of a video montage made to mimic the propaganda footage released by the Islamic State online.
Most of the scenes included in the published YouTube video are taken from content spread by the Islamic State itself, showing crucified militants, blown-up mosques and suicide attacks.
The US Department of State chose the harshest and most gruesome scenes with edited music to add to the dramatic effect that it intended to highlight through this online stunt.
“Do not walk but run towards the land of the Islamic State. Rush for Syria doesn’t belong to the Syrians and Iraq doesn’t belong to the Iraqis,” one of the comments that was attached to the footage read, calling on Americans to blow up mosques, crucify and kill Muslims as well as robbing public spots and carrying out suicide attacks.
This stunt is a US attempt to answer back to all the IS propaganda through a Facebook and Twitter campaign aimed at pushing Americans from answering the call to Jihad.
The online efforts are carried out by US Department of State employees who, sometimes, address the potential jihadists in person so as to strike the terrorist group’s recruitment attempts.
