Ghada Jabbour, co-founder of women's rights organization KAFA (Enough Violence and Exploitation) and head of the unit on exploitation and trafficking in women submitted a study on motives and perspectives of male sex buyers.
The study highlights that some prostitutes are subject to physical assaults by "angry clients" as well as their pimp as they are also forced to endure the violent practices of men seeking to quell their sexual desires.
It is remarkable that 60% of sex buyers who took part in the survey admitted that they have a partner with whom they were engaged in a regular sexual relation while conducting the interview. Motives of these men were somehow varied; some found that buying sex is affordable and easy, while others admitted to seeking multiple sex partners. As for the rest, they said they resort to prostitutes' services so as to meet their physical needs. The report indicated that all of the surveyed men deem prostitution as an acquired and natural right for them to seek.
The survey indicated that sex buyers consider that prostitution is a basic part of the community, as they warn against campaigns aiming to abolish it. Hence, prostitution have been rendered as crucial for a society to become free of harassment and rape, given that it provides a gateway for a man's libido.
The report outlined the leniency shown by Lebanon's Public Ethics Protection department, pointing out that the informants being hired by this unit allow themselves to be engaged in sexual intercourse with the potential prostitute. The latter is then arrested either during the act or after. Here the "client", who is the informant, cannot be legally pursued, the report added.
