Mouawad: Double standard is applied on extremism and terrorism

Independence Movement leader Michel Mouawad said Sunday that Taef Accord died with the assassination of President René Mouawad, stating that the assassination was the borderline between Taef and tutelage era.

In a gathering in Tripoli, Mouawad stressed that Lebanon is turning into a battlefield between two extremisms.

"Once there was only one monster but today monsters are surging here and there in Lebanon and the region," he added.

"Double standard is applied on extremism and terrorism, it is not possible to fight extremism in Tripoli and cover it in Bekaa," the former continued.

"We will not win the war against terrorism as long as the sovereign decision is in the hands of foreign powers," Mouawad concluded.
