Court Reaches Verdict in Lebanese Forces Case Against Al-Jadeed TV

Court of Appeal in Beirut, serving first degree trial on charges of publication crimes, found director of news and political programs manager Mariam al-Bassam guilty on charges of falsifying news, defamation and libel in the Lebanese Forces case.

 

Mariam al-Bassam (1967) will be fined the amount of three million Lebanese Pounds for every offense following extenuating circumstances; al-Bassam has been declared innocent of all other charges.

 

Al-Jadeed TV channel Board of Director Tahseen Khayyat and Mariam al-Bassam are jointly and severally liable at paying six million Lebanese Pounds in compensation to damages suffered by the plaintiff.

 

The channel is also expected to issue a full public statement on its news bullettinabout the verdict and its content on the day iof issuance.
