A new crime rocked the Metn Highway Wednesday at dawn.
At around four o’clock in the morning, a Syrian couple identified as Menhel Abdul Qader Jaroudiyeh and his wife Fatima Adnan al-Hajj Ibrahim were driving back to their hotel in Brumana in a rental “Infinity” car with a driver identified as Syrian national Mohammad Abdullah Breik.
When they reached the Qanabeh Bridge, their path was blocked by a black Nissan SUV, which forced them to take the bridge. Two armed men intercepted them and asked them to step out of the car and shot at Menhel’s feet. When his wife rushed to help him and call for help, she was shot in the heart and passed away on the spot.
The assailants escaped with a large amount of money stolen from the couple who were transferred to Arz Hospital. Menhel was released following treatment and gave out his testimony.
Investigations are underway and initial findings revealed that the driver, who was detained following the incident, could be involved in the operation.
