The Army Command released a statement on Thursday, announcing the arrest of Ali Ahmad Lakkis, a dangerous Nusra Front terrorist known as Abu Aisha, while attempting travel at Beirut International Airport using a fake passport.
Investigations revealed that Lakkis had pledged allegiance to the Nusra Front group and was trained to improvise and utilize a good deal of explosive devices.
He is said to have enjoyed a close relationship with the Nusra Front Emir in the Qalamoun and Arsal, Abu Malik al-Talli.
What’s more, authorities discovered that he was responsible for the death of the soldier Mohamad Maarouf Hamieh in August 2014.
When Hamieh’s father received the news about the arrest of his son’s killer, he told al-Akhbar daily: “The man who was caught was only following orders but the real assassin is Mustafa al-Hojeiry or Abu Taqieh,.”
The father thanked the Lebanese security forces, especially the army intelligence, on their efforts to clamp down on terrorists who had invaded Arsal, kidnapped and executed its servicemen.
