House Speaker, Nabih Berri, sternly rejected on Monday the redistribution of parliamentary seats, reiterating holding onto parity.
"If they are adamant about the parliamentary seats' redistribution, I will not accept the proposed draft," Berri said during a press conference.
"I am holding this conference to clarify what has been said about my violation of the Constitution," he said regarding the Parliament session to be held on June 5.
"In form, the Parliament session should have been held today," he explained.
"I contacted President Michel Aoun and MP George Adwan, and I agreed on adopting the proportional law with Lebanon as 15 districts after I had refused it, in an attempt to bring closer our viewpoints," Berri continued.
"The Parliament will keep on working to reach an agreement over a new electoral law; nobody can put pressure on the Parliament except for the Lebanese people," he stressed.
"President Aoun is as keen on respecting the Constitution as I am, and vacuum is out of the question," he said.
