Central Bank Governor, Riad Salameh, said on Tuesday that the initiative of Prime Minister, Saad Hariri, and the government to organize an international conference supported by France is beneficial and will result in kicking off the recovery of the country's economy, especially as the public sector will contribute.

Speaking at the conference on investment in infrastructure hosted by the Iktissad Wal Aamal Group and economic organizations at the Four Seasons Hotel, Salameh said he aspired "to a growth rate higher than that of the public debt, in case of realizations of the promises of Cedar I."

According to Salameh, the extension of the size of the private sector, through investment in the infrastructure of the economy, was imperative to restore the growth rate and create work opportunities that consolidate Lebanon's potential for production and competitiveness.

Salameh said the Central Bank has adopted a consistent policy of strengthening the banking sector, noting that the latter has managed to apply international standards.

He added that "the banking sector has complied with international requirements, insofar as it ensures that the funds that enter the banks do not go against the laws of the countries with which it has transactions."
