Katy Perry has revealed how Orlando Bloom proposed to her on Valentine's Day, describing the series of events that led to their engagement as "really sweet".
On Friday 15 February, Perry and Bloom hinted at their engagement by sharing almost identical posts on Instagram.
The selfie they both shared featured a close-up of their faces, and showed Perry wearing a flower-shaped diamond ring.
Perry recently spoke to American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel about the proposal, confirming that Bloom proposed in the most classically Hollywood way possible.
"We went to dinner and I thought we were going to go see some art after dinner, but we pulled up to a helicopter," the "Chained to the Rhythm" singer said.
While in the helicopter, Bloom's plan for the proposal didn't go fully according to plan.
"We had champagne in the helicopter and the box was in his pocket, and he had written down everything he wanted to say in a note to divert," Perry explained.
"He was going to pull [the ring box] out while I was reading it."
As Bloom attempted to subtly pull the ring box out without Perry noticing, he ended up ripping his coat pocket and knocking a champagne bottle with his elbow, the singer told Kimmel.
Nonetheless, the couple became happily engaged while mid-air. "It was really sweet," Perry added.
When they landed on a rooftop and entered the building below, the celebrations continued as Perry was surprised by her whole family and close friends eagerly awaiting the couple's arrival.
"He did so well," Perry said, with regards to Bloom's proposal planning skills.
The singer also spoke to Kimmel about the selection process for her engagement ring, which features a large pink stone at the centre.
"I voiced my opinions," she stated.
Perry and Bloom became romantically involved shortly after meeting at the 2016 Golden Globes.
After announcing their separation in February 2017, they rekindled their romance in April 2018.
